Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Indo-European *dol-éh₂ (“reckoning, calculation, fraud”), from the root *del- (“to reckon, calculate”). Compare Ancient Greek δόλος (dólos, “trick(ery), deceit; bait”), Hittite talliije/azi (“to pray to, evoke (a deity)”), and Old Armenian տող (toł, “line, row”).[1]
