Dutch[edit]
Etymology[edit]
First attested as betingum around 1275. Potentially derived from a compound of Old Frisian Bade (“a personal name”) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ingi- and hēm (“home, settlement”). The Dutch form of the toponym was borrowed from an earlier version of the Frisian name.
