- (Zuid-Holland) Attested as De Bieslants Polder in 1611. Compound of bies (“club-rush, Scirpus sp.”) and land (“land”). Named after a former fiefdom.
- (Limburg) Attested as Bies land in 1838-1857. Compound of bies (“club-rush, Scirpus sp.”) and land (“land”). Formerly an independent hamlet.
