Category talk:Ancient Greek names

@Angr, JohnC5, Erutuon: I'm currently facing several problems:

• let's take Eileithyia: should it be considered a transliteration of or a borrowing from Εἰλείθυια? What about Diomedes? Callistratus? The boundary seems tenuous.
• should we provide prosopographical information? I mean, is a dictionary the right place to do that? Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't, in a very inconsistent manner.
• if we did, shouldn't we have something like Category:Historical figures?
• how should Θησεύς be categorised? Maybe we should have Category:Mythological figures (ok, we already do apparently)?
• also, I'm somewhat reluctant to use Category:Ancient Greek given names with mythological figures. The only case when I do that without hesitation is when I see several historical figures who bear the same name (that is, 1. when a DGE entry says there are, for example with Ἀνδροσθένης; or 2. when I can find several articles on Wikipedia, as with Cleomenes).
• what exactly do we mean when we translate Ἀλκιβιάδης by Alcibiades?

To me, it seems that we (and I include myself in it) are mixing up lexicographic and encyclopaedic material. --Barytonesis (talk) 15:27, 22 June 2017 (UTC)

I'm thinking {{translit}} should add "borrowed" categories in addition to "transliterated" categories. Transliteration is, after all, a subtype of borrowing. Essentially it is a borrowing from a language that uses a different script. (In that case, the "transliterated" categories should be added automatically by {{borrowing}}.) — Eru·tuon 21:37, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
