Categorisation and template usage[edit]

An easy way to add a term to this category is via the {{uncountable}} template, which adds both a tag in the definition and a category entry, as

# {{uncountable}} An amorphous material.

Which will produce

  1. (uncountable) An amorphous material.

along with the category entry.

To add other than English language words to their respective language category, use:

# {{uncountable|lang=xx}}

Discussion[edit]

I don't think "glass" is the best example here. To me the example sentence describes a bottle that has been crafted out of several glass tumblers. Even forcing myself to think "kinds of glass" doesn't really work for me.

You should also mention the synonyms "mass noun" and "non-count noun". A clear example of an uncountable noun which cannot be pluralised in any sense is "information". — Hippietrail 12:59, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Not just nouns[edit]

This category should account for uncountable numbers as a secondary group of items to be categorized here, e.g. e, pi, Avogadro's number and so forth. Perhaps this conflict is best resolved by renaming it Category:Uncountable nouns? __meco 14:05, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
