German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unadapted borrowing from French chef (“head, boss”). Compare English chief and Spanish jefe.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]Chef m (strong, genitive Chefs, plural Chefs, feminine Chefin or Cheffin)
Usage notes
[edit]Note that Chef is a false friend and does not mean "chef". The general word for "chef" is Koch unless you want to imply the person has some form of leadership in which case you would use Chefkoch or Küchenchef.
