Galician[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Literally, God pay it!.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): (standard) /ˈdew‿loˈpaɣe̝/, (colloquial) /ˈdjo‿loˈpaɣe̝/

Interjection[edit]

Deus o pague!

  1. thank God (used to express gratitude or relief.)
    Synonym: grazas a Deus

Usage notes[edit]

Currently, Spanish Dios has replaced Galician Deus (God) in vulgar speech, but not in written or formal speech. Also, because of historical sandhi, -s + article o is actually frequently pronounced as -lo.
