From Middle High German durst, from Old High German durst, thurst, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Germanic *þurstuz, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *ters- (dry). Akin to Old Dutch thursti (modern Dutch dorst), Old Saxon thurst, Old English þurst (modern English thirst).
