[edit]- (Limburg) Potentially attested as elisla in 1002, attested with certainty as eleslo in 1111. Compound of Old Dutch elis (“alder, Alnus sp.”) and lo (“light forest”). See also Limburgish Aelse.
- (Friesland) First attested as elslo in 1405. Compound of Middle Dutch els (“alder, Alnus sp.”) and lo (“light forest”). See also West Frisian Elslo and Dutch Low Saxon Else.
