Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested as eversche and evershude in 1404. Etymology unknown. Some attestations appear to suggest a derivation from a compound of ever (boar, male pig) and schot (enclosed space, fenced-in land) or schoot (piece of land that juts upward), but this hypothetical compound does not match the oldest attestations.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈeː.vər.sə/
  • Hyphenation: Ever‧se

Proper noun[edit]

Everse n

  1. A hamlet in Meierijstad, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands.
