Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle Low German vorke, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Saxon furka, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin furca. The word did originally exist in High German (already Old High German furka), but the modern use is based on the Low German lineage and chiefly restricted to originally Low German areas. Compare Dutch vork, English fork.
