An improper simplification of the McCune-Reischauer romanization Hamgyŏng of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Korean 함경도 (Hamgyeong Do), from Sino-Korean 咸鏡 and 道 (“administrative circuit, province”), from its one-time principal cities Hamhung (咸興) and Kyongsong (鏡城).
