Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Arabic هَاشِمِيّ (hāšimiyy, Hashemite) with English suffix -ite, from هَاشِم (hāšim, Hashim). The name signifies "breaker of bread", from هَشَمَ (hašama, to destroy, smash).
