  • (Land van Cuijk) Attested as Heeswijk in 1838-1857. Compound of hees (brushwood) and wijk (village, settlement).
  • (Utrecht) First attested as hesewic and hesewik in 1204. Compound of Old Dutch hese (brushwood) and wīc (farmstead, village, settlement).
