Etymology

[edit]

First attested as hossem and hesne in 1328. Etymology uncertain. Ostensibly a compound of a personal name and heem (home, settlement), but the second attestation of 1328 casts doubt on this etymology. Compare Dalfsen, Oudleusen and Welsum.

  • IPA(key): /ˈɦɛ.sʏm/
