[edit]First attested as lusne in 1311. Univerbation of oud + Leusen. The element Leusen is of unknown origin and is not related to loos (“drainage channel”). The element oud (“old”) was added at a later date to distinguish the settlement from Nieuwleusen. Compare Dalfsen, Hessum and Welsum.
