Etymology
From Hebrew יְהוֹשֻׁעַ (yəhôšūaʿ), perhaps from הוֹשֵׁעַ (hōšḗaʿ, “Hosea”) with the "addition" of יהוה (“Yahweh”), therefore meaning "Yahweh is salvation". See הוֹשִׁיעַ (hoshía', “to save”).
