Entered German from Low Prussian (German Low German) Kaddig, Kaddik (juniper), perhaps as early as the Middle Low German period. From Old Prussian kadegis, kaddegs (juniper), from or cognate to Lithuanian kadagys (juniper), disputed whether the source or descendants of Proto-Finnic *kataga (juniper).
