• (Noord-Brabant) Attested as De Kykuit in 1838-1857. Compound of the imperative form of kijken (“watch, look”) and uit (“out”), here used as a synonym of uitkijk (“crow's nest, look-out”).
• (Zeeland) Attested as Kijkuit in 1747. Compound of the imperative form of kijken (“watch, look”) and uit (“out”), here used as a synonym of uitkijk (“crow's nest, look-out”). Named after a former sconce.
