Etymology[edit]

Attested as Klein-Valkenisse in 1838-1857. Compound of klein (small, lesser) and a compound toponym derived from Middle Dutch Valke (a personal name) and nisse (headland, spit). The element klein was added to distinguish the settlement from Groot-Valkenisse.
