Etymology[edit]

Refers to the district of Lalmonirhat, which is a transliteration of Bengali লালমনিরহাট (lalomnirhaṭ), a corruption of লালমণিরহাট (lalomnirhaṭ), which is ultimately a compound of লাল (lal, “red”) +‎ মণির (monir, the genitive of মণি (maṇi, “gem, jewel”)) +‎ হাট (haṭ, “market”).
