[edit]First attested as mengersburne in 1331. Compound of the surname Mingers and Middle Dutch burne (“source, well”). The second element was gradually reinterpreted to berg (“hill, elevated place”) and burg (“castle, fortified settlement”). Compare Ubachsberg.
