Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested as morsele in 1244. Potentially a compound of moer (peat bog) and Old Dutch sele (hall house). An alternative hypothesis proposes a derivation from mortel (low-lying muddy place). Compare Moerslag.
