Etymology[edit]

One theory suggests a derivation from Russian угри (ugri, eels). An alternative theory, based on historical forms of the name (Wogene, Woga) posits a relationship to Finno-Ugric, e.g. Estonian voog (flow, stream, wave), from Proto-Finnic *voo, from Proto-Uralic *uwa- (to flow), possibly via Livonian [Term?].

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (file)
