Old Tagalog

  1. The ancient or older medieval language of Tagalog mostly spoken and sparsely written using the Baybayin script in the Philippines from around 900 C.E. to 1565 C.E., when it soon developed into Classical Tagalog after Christianization by the Spanish arrival. It developed from Proto-Philippine, then Greater Central Philippine, then Central Philippine, with influence from Old Malay, Classical Sanskrit, Classical Arabic, Middle Tamil, Classical Persian, Old Javanese, and either Medieval Min Chinese or Late Middle Chinese.
