- (Zeeland) First attested as oesterer nuwelant in duvelant in 1370. Compound of ooster (“eastern, east-”) and land (“land”). See also Zealandic Oôsterland.
- (Noord-Holland) First attested as oestenlande in 1343-1344. Compound of Middle Dutch ooster (“eastern, east-”) and land (“land”). The toponym contrasts with Westerland.
