Translingual

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Possibly from English Papua (Indo-Pacific island) +‎ -ina f (-ine). This theory is based upon the possibility of the snails being found near or around Papua. This is supported by the species name translingual Papuina papuensis (literally Papuan papuina) (formerly Helix papuensis).

Proper noun

[edit]

Papuina f

  1. A taxonomic genus within the subfamily Hadrinae – certain marine snails.
