From Serbo-Croatian Pòdgorica / По̀дгорица, literally “under the Gorica”, from pȍd / по̏д (under) + Gòrica / Го̀рица (literally little mountain) the name of a hill which overlooks the city, from gòra / го̀ра (mountain).
