From Neapolitan Polcinella, from Latin pullus (a young animal).

Punchinello (plural Punchinellos or Punchinelloes)

  1. A traditional Italian puppet, in the form of a short fat clown.
  2. (by extension) Somebody who resembles this character; a grotesque buffoon.
