Etymology[edit]

Perhaps a Sino-Vietnamese word from 歸仁, literally "to return to humanity/compassion/benevolence", with the Central-Southern reading of the second character. An earlier name was 懷仁怀仁 (Hoài Nhơn), with a similar literal meaning. Another interpretation is a Sino-Vietnamese word from 歸人 (a returner; a person who returns) (SV: Quy Nhơn).
