Etymology[edit]
First attested as ramesdunc in 1253. Compound of either Middle Dutch rams (“wild garlic, Allium ursinum”) or Middle Dutch Rame (“a personal name”) and donk (“sandy hill protruding above a marsh”). Compare Ramele.
