[edit]

From trūdō (shove) +‎ -icāre, with early syncope of /ĭ/ and assimilation of /dk/ to /kk/ (cf. *fīgicāre).

An origin in Proto-Germanic *þrukkijaną (press) has also been suggested but appears unlikely.[1]
