Reconstruction:Proto-Celtic/gnināti
Appearance
Proto-Celtic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *ǵn̥néh₃ti (“to know, recognize”).
Verb
[edit]*gnināti
- to recognize
Reconstruction notes
[edit]Later in Celtic, the ablauting nasal infix -nā-/-na- was replaced by -nu- by analogy with *klinutor (“to hear”), accounting for the fact that the stem vowel i is not lowered to e in Old Irish.[1]
