Proto-Finnic

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Related to *keerdäk, either as a back-formation or derivative with *-ra (~ *kierrä, which some descendants appear to support).

Has also been compared with words in other Uralic languages, e.g. Hungarian kerül, but the long vowel cannot be inferred from the reconstructed Proto-Uralic form *kerä. Within Finnic contrast also *kerä (ball of string), *kääridäk (to wrap).

Adjective

[edit]

*keerä

  1. (of fiber) twisted
