[edit]Cognate with Proto-Brythonic *koɨd (“forest”) (Old Welsh coit), Latin bū-cētum (“pastureland”, literally “cow-pasture”), Albanian kath (“type of wheat”), kasht (“straw”). Possibly further from Proto-Indo-European *kóy-t-os (“forest, wasteland, pasture”), from *keyt- (“to shine”).
