Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *swey-, which could be an extension of *sew- (to braise). Compare Avestan 𐬒𐬬𐬀𐬉𐬥𐬀 (x́vaēna, red-hot, glowing), from Proto-Indo-European *(H)swoy-no-.
