@GuitarDudeness: Linguists are pretty much in agreement that the first element is *h₁én (“in, downward”), but the second is less clear. It could simply be a alternation/dissimilation of *h₁n̥tér, *h₁n̥téri, locative of *h₁n̥ter-. --{{victar|talk}} 19:49, 27 January 2019 (UTC)

@Victar: Excellent! Thank you. But cannot it simply be from *h₁én (redundant with *h₁néri)? As this, so *upéri would be locative case of *upo (or *ups seen in Latin sus < subs) with similar reversion of meaning (in/over > from over > down, under > from under > up)? -GuitarDudeness (talk) 15:45, 28 January 2019 (UTC)

@GuitarDudeness: The adverbial suffix *-dʰe attaches to the full grade and **h₁éndʰe doesn't work for its descendants. It also fits better, semantically. --{{victar|talk}} 16:29, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
