Etymology
Originally in the obsolete form of Schrittschuh (“step shoe, pace shoe”), from Schritt + Schuh, an old compound already attested in (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old High German scritescuoh. Remodelled in modern German by association with Schlitten (“sleigh”).
