German[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From a metathesised form of the hydronym Saeffeler Bach, the second part comes from Dutch kant (“side”). The hydronym is possibly derived from Latin sabulum (“coarse sand”). Compare Dutch Zelfkant and Limburgish Selfkantj.
