From Turkish Silifke and Ottoman Turkish سلفكه (Silifke), from Byzantine Greek Σελεύκεια (Seleúkeia, Seleucia), from Ancient Greek Σέλευκος (Séleukos, Seleucus) + -εια (-eia, -ia: forming place names) in honor of its founder Seleucus I Nicator. Doublet of Seleucia.
