From Middle Low German Swêde, from a (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 239: Parameter 1 should be a valid language code; the value "gem" is not valid. See WT:LOL. word akin to Old English Swēoþēod (Swede-people), itself from Swēon (Swedes) (Old Norse Svíar), from Proto-Germanic *swihô (Swede). Cognate with Dutch Zweed, German Schwede.
