smart

[edit]

I can't understand this: "absolutely poor (literally: "naked") (but implied to be smart)". What does "implied to be smart" mean? "Absolutely poor" sounds like a person who is penniless, but "implied to be smart" makes it sound like he is not penniless at all, but he is very intelligent. I'm confused. —Stephen (Talk) 19:25, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Stephen G. Brown: Maybe it means "poor but resourceful (street-smart)"? But we need Atitarev. --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 19:33, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Stephen G. Brown, Per utramque cavernam: Yes, it's sort of street-smart because "necessity is the mother of invention", which is го́ль на вы́думку хитра́ (gólʹ na výdumku xitrá) in Russian where го́лый (gólyj) also means "poor". The implied extended meanings are in the usage examples. Please suggest how to re-write the definition. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 01:24, 21 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
