Altai isn’t a recognised language. We have Southern Altai (alt) and Northern Altai (atv). — Ungoliant (falai) 17:02, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Also jӱрек. — Ungoliant (falai) 17:06, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It is southern! Apologies for the unclearness, I'm not used to how words are added yet... Why I only added as "Altai" is that the south and north division is arbritary as the division is made from geography (but this is not a complaint), I am sorry again for the inconvinence. 天人了 (talk) 18:33, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, do yu think South and North Altai should be merged? We could start a discussion about that. Wikipedia suggests there is some difference, though: "Though traditionally considered one language, Southern Altai is not fully mutually intelligible with the Northern varieties. Written Altai is based on Southern Altai, and according to Ethnologue is rejected by Northern Altai children." - -sche (discuss) 19:36, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, the division is fine as is I think, the differences are larger between south and north than east and west so it makes sense. But, in the extremes, there can be dialects that are barely incomprehensible even between the south, and I suspect the north too. The differences in north are definitely bigger, it is even seen as a different language of itself. I can't say how much of that is political though. Other languages like Tuvan and Mongolian in the east have more impact than in the west etc. 天人了 (talk) 20:03, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This is a little embarrassing: I noticed the following: the word јӱрек already existed on Wiktionary. Accidentally I used the Latin j and added it futily as a new word... How should this be handled? Can word entries be merged without a hazzle? 天人了 (talk) 06:30, 16 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've merged jӱрек with Latin j to јӱрек with Cyrillic ј. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 06:52, 16 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
