@Vahagn Petrosyan: Comapre also Northern Kurdish virr (lie).--Calak (talk) 20:23, 4 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Calak, thanks, this is promising. I created vir and added the parallel. --Vahag (talk) 11:44, 5 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Note also that virr is probably onomatopoeic and is the same as tirr, meaning a "fart". In Northern Kurdish lying or exaggerating is made fun of by referring to it as if someone just talks out of their butt as in berde, binê te erd e ("let it go, your sitting on it anyway", as in you can "fart"/lie as much as you want since noone will smell it) and this sometimes also includes the verb çirrandin/dirrandin (to tear), as in hêdî berde tu'ê xwe biçirrînî ("let it out slowly, you'll tear yourself open", meaning "you're lying/exaggerating too much"). Note also hilçirrandin / hiltirrandin ("tear up", "fart up") meaning to exaggerate. It's like saying "bullshit" or "full of shit".
I might be wrong about this though, and it might instead be a descendant of Proto-Indo-European *wert- and akin to zivirrîn (to turn, twist) and gerrîn (to turn; wander). But I doubt it since virr is more of an unserious way of saying "lie" in most dialects, while derew wouldn't be used in the same way. Notice also to say "liar" using this word leads to virrek (similar to tirrek (farter)), unlike derew which is mostly derewçîn (liar), derewgo (lie-said), derewbêj (lie-sayer), derewker (lie-doer), etc.
What are your thoughts? Zerwanda (talk) 18:02, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I now think the Kurdish word is not related to առաւիր (aṙawir). Vahag (talk) 21:02, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
