@Vahagn Petrosyan, the term is most certainly borrowed from *fragaHwah, and several sources support a phonetic recontraction or a liquid metathesized /fargāw/. from which the Old Armenian is thought to be borrowed. --{{victar|talk}} 21:07, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Victar: Iranian fa- would give Armenian փա- (pʻa-), not պա- (pa-): compare փառք (pʻaṙkʻ). Vahag (talk) 21:22, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Surely explaining it as an unexpected borrowing outcome is more likely then presuming a whole new prefix. --{{victar|talk}} 21:43, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Victar: According to Cheung, the Sogdian could be formed with *pari-, but it is indeed more economical to reconstruct one word. Anyway, the wording can remain as it is now until we figure out what is going on. PS. If you are working on all reflexes of the root *gaw-, don't forget օգն (ōgn) and օգուտ (ōgut). Vahagn, thanks for letting me know about those other borrowings. I changed the etymology around. Let me know what you think of it. --{{victar|talk}} 02:18, 15 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have somewhat reworded the etymology. Vahag (talk) 20:33, 15 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
