@AryamanA: Hello. Hindi काम (kām) is listed in the descendants of Sanskrit कर्मन् (karman), but its etym says it comes from Sanskrit कर्म (karma). Isn't there a difference between these two Sanskrit words? --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 23:46, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Per utramque cavernam: The result would be identical in Hindi, since both have the same gender (neuter). But, CDIAL specifically says kárman is the ancestor, so I'll defer to it. —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करें • योगदान) 23:48, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
- @AryamanA: कर्म (karma) is just the nom sg of the n stem neuter कर्मन् (karman). There doesn't seem to be an a stem neuter कर्म (karma) with nom sg कर्मम् (karmam). Monier states karma is just the compounding form of kárman which just means it's the nom sg. We should remove the meanings from the entry and mention that it is an inflected form. -- माधवपंडित (talk) 09:27, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
