This Sanskrit word is a derivation of Pali and the Pali word is a descendant of this Sanskrit word? Something seems to be incorrect. Wyang (talk) 08:50, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

- Perhaps you were confused by 瑠璃#Etymology which claims that Pali word was derived from Sanskrit. In fact the opposite is true - Sanskrit vaiḍūrya is artificially created from veḷuriya through some formulaic transformations established by the grammarians (e > ai, ḷ > ḍ) and wrongly self-etymologized in older sources (e.g. Monier-Williams dictionary) as a native word (got forfend that a sacred language got contaminated by vulgar speech or Dravidianisms!). --Ivan Štambuk (talk) 10:21, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
