“Coriander”[edit]

@ZxxZxxZ, Aryamanarora, माधवपंडित Another Iranian etymology of a Chinese word. Laufer's Sino-Iranica discussed it: [1], and pointed to an Iranian form of *koswi, *košwi, *gošwi. Please check the etymology, and modify/improve as necessary. Thanks! Wyang (talk) 12:51, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Wyang: I think this wanderwort is ultimately of Semitic origin. -- mādhavpaṇḍit (talk) 14:10, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Wyang: I agree with Madhavpandit, it's likely of Semitic origin. The Sanskrit word seems to be some sort of hypercorrection from an Iranian borrowing; there's definitely no Indo-Iranian term that can be reconstructed. I can find little research on the term right now, but I'll keep on looking. —Aryaman (मुझसे बात करो) 18:00, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
