X alphabet, etc.

Latin alphabet, Cyrillic alphabet, Balinese alphabet, Sorani alphabet, Chinese character, Arabic script, etc. etc.: all SoPs and encyclopædia stuff. ·~ dictátor·mundꟾ 13:58, 13 October 2021 (UTC) P.S. All SoP translations, such as alfabetu llatinu, alphabet latin, латин цагаан толгой, etc. etc., need to be deleted as well. ·~ dictátor·mundꟾ 17:56, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Keep, they're concepts as a whole (to me). AG202 (talk) 14:18, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not all concepts are dictionary material. ·~ dictátor·mundꟾ 17:56, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure, but they do feel rather redundant, like having entries for German language, Arabic script (oh lol we have it), etc. Are there not cases of an X alphabet existing that isn't the X alphabet so-called? (Consider the "Arabic numerals" we use in English, versus the other ones that may be used in Arab script.) Equinox 08:55, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It surprises me how some of these entries are like Appendix pages! These should definitely be deleted, but I am not sure how long this would take, for the admins here are too slow to act. ·~ dictátor·mundꟾ 13:39, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Keep. Definitions should be short, but it is useful to keep tables of translations. In several languages, equivalents of English X alphabet are single-word terms (e.g. Czech latinka, Russian лати́ница (latínica)), or otherwise different from sum of separate translations of X and alphabet. I'm striking this deletion request as ill-formed. Next time, at least visit the entries nominated. DAVilla 04:56, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@DAVilla: The nomination is valid because the deletion request pertains to words of a specific kind. How would you then nominate all those terms?— there are lots of them, not just the ones I mentioned. ·~ dictátor·mundꟾ 19:51, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Inqilābī:, please nominate examples to first see where consensus lies. I've singled out Arabic script and Sorani alphabet below. They seem to me like good candidates for deletion. I didn't want to list Latin alphabet as I feel there's sufficient reason to keep, but that might be a good test if you like. Once we have a better idea of people's opinions and a clearer picture of what to consider for keeps, you can go ahead and nominate in bulk.
Otherwise there are a couple of problems, in that the requests would either flood the page, as you suggest, or the terms are a mish-mash of varying cases, given bulk treatment in some votes and conditions in others, where the nuance might be difficult to discern when it comes time to deleting a subset of them. Consensus is clearest when dealing with individual terms. In particular, admins can't act on "etc. etc."
Thanks for bringing these forward, tho. Please do visit e.g. Balinese alphabet to see how some had decided to handle the entries. To me it's odd to give some this treatment but not others. It's certainly good to do house cleaning and simultaneously get everyone on the same page. DAVilla 23:10, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Keep. These are not transparent. For instance, the Latin alphabet includes letters that were never used in Latin, and many non-Latin languages, like English, Italian, or Tagalog, use it. Andrew Sheedy (talk) 22:30, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"Latin alphabet" has some claim to non-SOP-ness, as Andrew says. "Cyrillic alphabet" doesn't, AFAICT. - -sche (discuss) 16:45, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
