Alpha, beta and gamma forms

What do the terms α-forms, β-forms and γ-forms in the alternative forms section mean? — Ungoliant ^(falai) 06:30, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

They just distinguish different sets of alternative forms, like "page xi" and "page xii" distinguish pages of a book. Search the site for "β-forms" for more examples, including e.g. traveler's diarrhea.
Now that I think about it, I suppose one could just strip out "α-form", "β-form" etc and the remaining clarification (in this case, "r-terminal", "w-initial", etc; in the case of traveler's diarrhea, "US", "UK", "mixed") would be sufficient, at least in those cases. - -sche (discuss) 07:53, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
